And they were not merely beautiful artworks. They were embedded with scientific knowledge, technological skill and sophisticated codes of production that we are only beginning to appreciate.

Now pause and imagine this:

What were the people who produced such works in the 9th century capable of doing that we have not yet fully understood?

This was nearly 1,100 years ago—long before many of the nations we call “scientifically advanced” today had anything comparable.

Perhaps it is time to stop looking at our ancestors merely as people who “made beautiful objects.”

They were thinkers. They were engineers. They were innovators.

The real question is not whether Africa had technology.

It is how much of that technological knowledge we lost, ignored or were taught to forget.
