MUAMMAR GADDAFI: THE LEADER WHO WANTED ONE AFRICA

MUAMMAR GADDAFI: THE LEADER WHO WANTED ONE AFRICA

MUAMMAR GADDAFI: THE LEADER WHO WANTED ONE AFRICA

In 1969, a 27-year-old Captain took over Libya. His name was Muammar Gaddafi. He would rule for 42 years.

When he came, Libya was one of the poorest countries in the world. When he died, Libya had the highest standard of living in Africa.

What he did:

  • Made education and healthcare FREE for every Libyan
  • Gave houses as a human right – if you got married, the government gave you a house
  • Built the Great Man-Made River – the biggest water project in the world, bringing water to the desert
  • Libya had NO foreign debt. He kept Libya’s oil money for Libya.

But his biggest dream was not Libya. It was AFRICA.

He wanted ONE AFRICAN ARMY, ONE AFRICAN CURRENCY backed by gold, and ONE AFRICAN PASSPORT. He pushed for the United States of Africa. That’s why the African Union was created in Sirte, Libya in 1999, funded mostly by him.

The West called him a dictator. Many Africans called him a visionary.

On October 20, 2011, during the NATO intervention, he was killed in Sirte, his hometown. His final words were: “What did I do to you?”

After him, Libya collapsed into civil war and slavery returned.

Love him or hate him, no African leader ever pushed for African unity like him.

A MAN WHO DREAMT OF ONE AFRICA.
