THE 1925 CARTOON THAT PREDICTED TODAY

In 1925, an American political cartoonist named Robert Bob Minor drew something that looked crazy at the time.

He titled it One Day They Will Wake Up. It was published on the cover of The Daily Worker, a socialist newspaper in Chicago.

The picture is simple but powerful. In the center stand three giant figures, a man representing China, a man representing India, and a man representing Africa.

They are huge, muscular, and they have just woken up from sleep. Their ropes are broken. And in front of them are three tiny, terrified little men holding whips. One is labelled U.S.

Imperialism, one British Imperialism, and one French Imperialism. They are shaking. In the background, hidden in the shadows, a Russian soldier is watching and smiling.

In 1925, the world was completely controlled by the West. Britain ruled India and most of Africa.

France ruled large parts of Africa. America was getting rich and powerful. China was weak and divided. To the average person in London or New York, it looked like this would last forever.

But Bob Minor had a different realization. He said the West is only rich because it has money and guns. China, India and Africa are poor in money and guns, but they are rich in people. Billions of people.

His message was simple, one day these sleeping giants will realize their own strength and wake up. When that day comes, the small imperialists with whips will not be able to control them anymore.

Now look at 2026, exactly 101 years after he drew it. China is the second largest economy in the world, and in some areas, the first.

It leads in manufacturing, technology, and electric cars. India is the most populous country on earth, one of the fastest growing economies, a tech superpower, and a member of BRICS.

Africa, though still facing challenges of poverty, corruption and bad governance, is the youngest continent with 1.4 billion people, vast natural resources, and growing influence. The African Union now has a seat at the G20.

And what about the three small men with whips? Britain and France are no longer empires.

America is still powerful, but it now has to negotiate tariffs, trade wars, and influence with the very countries it once looked down on.

That is why the cartoon went viral again in 2024 and 2025 during the debates over tariffs on China and India, because people finally said, this man saw it 100 years ago.

The cartoon teaches us that population is power. You can suppress people with guns for a while, but you cannot suppress them forever. It also shows that no empire lasts forever. Power always shifts.

The hunter will one day become the hunted. And most importantly, awakening is a choice. The giants were not freed by someone else. They woke up themselves.

Bob Minor was a socialist and some people argue about his ideology. But you don’t have to be a socialist to understand his prediction.

If you have the people, you have the future. One day they will wake up.

And that day is now.
