“The greatest tríçk of a ÇÔRRúPT system is convincing its víçtíms to defend it.” — FELA KUTI.

“The greatest tríçk of a ÇÔRRúPT system is convincing its víçtíms to defend it.” — FELA KUTI.

And Nigerian politicians are the MASTER of it.

Fela said this in the 70s. 50 years later, the trîçk still works perfectly in Nigeria.

Look at the picture. The puppeteer at the top. The strings. The crowd at the bottom fightîñg each other. The National Assembly in the middle. That is Nigeria.

HOW THEY DO IT:

  1. They stéàl YOUR möñēy, then give YOU crumbs to fíght over.

A Governor stëáls N100 Bíllíóñ. Then during election, he brings N5,000 and 2 cups of rice for your mother. You collect it. You shout “Our leader! Our leader!”

You are defending the man who stôlé your future for the price of rice that won’t last one week.

Your school has no chairs. Your hospital has no drúgs. Your road is k!ling people. But you are on Facebook defending him because he gave you N5k. That is the trîçk.

  1. They make you fíght tribè while they shârè the lôòt together.

An APC man from Lagos and a PDP man from Kano both are billiøñaires. Their children school in London together. They do business together. They marry each other.

But they tell YOU: “Igbo are the prôblém” “Yoruba are the prôblém” “Hausa are dominating you.”

So you, who has no light, no job, no hope , you start fightîñg your fellow pôōr man from another tribè. While they sit in Abuja shàríñg oil möñēy.

Ask yourself: When did a pôōr Igbo man ever take your job? When did a pôōr Yoruba man ever lôòt your state treasury? It’s your own son that lôoted it.

  1. They make pôverty your identity.

The greatest tríçk? They have convinced you that súffèríñg is normal.

“Make we manage.” “E go better.” “Na so e be for Nigeria.”

No! It’s not normal! You have oil. You have gas. You have gold. You have the most brilliant people on earth. A country that makes $50 Bíllíóñ from oil should not have citizens defending fâìlùrè.

But you defend it. You say: “At least he built one road” . After 8 years! One road! With your möñēy.

You say: “Leave him, na our brother” , So if your brother is a thíèf, you will let him stéàl your father’s house?

Fela saw it: Zømbîé.

He called us zømbïēs. Because we see police collect bribè, we cheer. We see Senator bûy SUV of N300m while minimum wage is N70k, we say “God bless him.” We see them fly abroad for medical check-up with our möñēy, while our general hospital is mørtuary.

And we defend them.

Check Twitter, Facebook today. Who is defending the ÇÔRRúPT politicians? Not their children. Their children are in Canada. It’s YOU. The okada rider. The unemployed graduate. The market woman.

The viçtim defending the system that is k!ling him.

Nigerian politicians don’t need to hire army to protect their ÇÔRRUPTíöñ. They have YOU. For free.

Until you cut the string. Until you realize that the man in Agbada in Aso Rock and the man in Agbada in oppôsition are controlled by the same puppeteer ; grèéd.

Your éñèmy is not your tribè. Your éñèmy is the man who made you think your tribè is your éñèmy.
