š This was Nigeria’s first Military Head of State, Major General Johnson Aguiyi Ironsi, holding his famous crocodile š Ofor.
History remembers him as the man who took over Nigeria at one of the country’s most difficult moments in 1966, hoping to restore peace and unity after the first military coup.
Sadly, his time in office was cut short. Just 194 days later, he was overthrown and brvtally k!lled during the July 1966 counter coup alongside the Military Governor of Western Region, Lt. Col. Adekunle Fajuyi, who chose loyalty over his own life.
No matter your tribe or political views, one thing is certain: Nigeria has l0st many leaders to v!olence, and the scars of those years are still with us today.
May the souls of Aguiyi Ironsi, his good friend Lt. Col. Adekunle Fajuyi and all those who d!ed during that trag!c period continue to rest in peace.
Do you think Nigeria would have been different if Aguiyi Ironsi had not been assass!nated?
