Today 8th of August 2026; I join the good people of ikwo noyo to celebrate her new yam festival otherwise known as ( Nnefioha)

“Nnefioha” New yam festival is annually celebrate around August on orie market

After NCHONU-OJINJI day which is on 04-08-2026

The significance of iri ji cultural event, is the returning home of yam, every home in ikwo noyo, yam barns, shall remain open from 7 pm till dawn. No night movement in those days, as yam movement doesn’t want to be interrupted. This is in readiness for Neswoha and new yam festival,on EKE-NWANEKWA.

The Sequence Of Event as follows

*04/08/26 Nchonu, is Ojinji

*05/08/26 is Aphoagu

*06/08/2026 is Nkwo- Igboji

*08/8/26 OzuruOla(igboji Neswioha). Buying of Items for the festival and OyeOse le Ukpara and social cultural ceremony.

*09/8/2026 is Orie, Neswoha Day.

10/8/2026 Ekoyo is Unu-Afa

*11/08/2026 Nkwo- Eke .

*12/08/2026 EKE-NWANEKWA, which is beginning of eating new yam in Ikwo Noyo Clan.

It’s stated that The New yam festival
(Nnefioha ) marks the commencement of a new calendar year for the ikwo people of Ebonyi state It signifies the end of the planting season, especially the planting of yam and the ushering in of the new yam.Yam is so much celebrated in Igbo land culturally because yam is regarded as the king of crops.
